Reading books is a worthy habit to inarticulate in kids from an early age. I remember, I use to literally haunt book stores, especially used bookstores were my favorite places.
Around the age of 10 to 12, kids usually transit from children books to novel books for kids. Old timeless classics, marvelous mysteries and trips back in time, books that are worthy a spot on everyone’s bookshelf.
If you are also looking for good books for kids to read, here is a short reading book list that I have complied along with the links to online bookstores.
Nowhere Boy
Ahmed is a fourteen-year-old boy, who is stuck in a city that wants nothing to do with him. Newly arrived in Brussels, Belgium, Ahmed fled a life of uncertainty and suffering in Aleppo, Syria, only to lose his father on the perilous journey to the shores of Europe. Now Ahmed s struggling to get by on his own, but with no one left to trust and nowhere to go, he’s starting to lose hope.
Then he then meets Max, a thirteen-year-old American boy from Washington, D.C. Lonely and homesick, Max is struggling at his new school and just can’t seem to do anything right. With an exciting discovery, their lives intertwine. Together they face the world and learn what it means to be brave.
It’s a beautifully written story about hope and friendship that will restore some of your faith in humanity.

A Boy Called Hope
This book is written from the point of view of an 11-year old boy Dan Hope. He hopes to see his father, who left them for another woman and has never looked back. A wonderful, funny and sometimes sad book. His journey is filled with a bunch of friends, family and other characters who add to the colorful tale.
Though written for young pre-teenage boys the story is a praiseworthy read for children and adults alike. It has an age old theme ‘a little bit of hope can go a long way,’ which is relevant to everyone.

Gulliver’s Travels
The classic tale of Gulliver who sets sail for adventure and finds a country beyond his wildest dreams. He’s certainly never met anyone like the people of Liliput. But then the people of Liliput have never met anyone quite like Gulliver…
The Usborne Young Readers collection takes classics and makes them reader friendly for early readers.

Beauty and the Beast
A very simplified retelling of the classic, timeless love story for children who are growing in their reading confidence and ability. The Beast lives alone in his castle, enchanted by a wicked fairy for his mistake and waiting for true love to break the spell. Could Belle be the one to see through his ugly exterior?
With beautiful illustrations.

Alice in Wonderland
One of my favorite classic book and movie. The craziness and a completely different outlook on different characters and the talking rabbit all add to the fun. They fuel the imagination of kids to look at things from un upside down view.

Around the World in Eighty Days
The classic tale of Phileas Fogg and his quest to travel around the world in just eighty days is a very good book to introduce the kids to the classics. It’s fun and full of adventures. Introduction to different cultures and the misshapen adventures of Phileas Fogg are sure to make the kids eager for more.
